Mother of the Bride & Groom: How to Choose the Perfect Gown

by | May 4, 2023

Planning your daughter or son’s wedding is both exciting and stressful—and all the moving parts make it easy to forget to start shopping for your own gown. Finding the right dress that suits the wedding and makes you stand out from the crowd without distracting from the bride’s spotlight can be a balancing act, so we’re sharing tips to make your shopping as easy as possible.

Start Early

The best advice we can give is to give yourself enough time to find your perfect dress. You never know if you’ll need alterations, and you’ll definitely want enough time to find something you truly love. The last thing you want is to be scrambling for a dress weeks before the wedding! We recommend starting the shopping process around 6-8 months before the wedding.

Take Inspiration from the Bridal Party

You don’t want to match the bridal party exactly, but the color of your dress shouldn’t outright clash with their dresses, either. You want something that will complement the bridal party in photos. For example, if the bridesmaids are in blush, you could wear champagne, or if they’re in light blue, you could wear navy. Choose something that goes well without being the same color!

Bring Friends

If you get easily stressed out while shopping, bring along your daughter or your best friend to make the outing more fun! Having someone you trust makes the entire experience more enjoyable, and you’ll feel more confident in your final dress choice!
