How Many People Should You Bring Wedding Dress Shopping?

Nov 30, 2020

One of the most exciting parts of the wedding planning process is wedding dress shopping. It’s such a special moment for the bride, along with everyone that she brings along with her! But, how many people should you bring wedding dress shopping? And who should you bring wedding dress shopping?

HOW MANY PEOPLE TO BRING WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING

You should try to limit the number of guests that you bring with you as much as possible. While bringing a few people may seem obvious to an introverted person, it can be very overwhelming to have a lot of people wedding dress shopping with you, even for the most extroverted person out there! We really recommend trying to limit your number of guests to around three people. We know that this isn’t possible for everyone, but it’s a good idea to try and stay close to that range. Think about it this way: the more people that you bring with you, the more opinions that you will be receiving about each dress that you try on. All that this leads to is unnecessary stress! When it comes down to it, you’re the only person who knows the right number of people to bring with you. Some brides will do best coming by themselves, while others truly feel most comfortable renting out a shop and bringing 10 people. Make sure that you check with the bridal shop you’re going to and ensure that they can accommodate the number of guests that you’re bringing with you. Most shops are limiting their numbers right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For example, we are currently only allowing brides to bring three guests with them. We do, however, offer glamour appointments for a fee, which allows you to bring more guests.

DECIDING WHO TO BRING WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING

Once you’ve figured out how many people you’re comfortable with bringing along, and checked to see how many the bridal shop allows, it’s time to figure out who you want to bring with you. If you really want to bring more guests with you than what the shop allows, then there are a few things that you can do! First of all, the blame won’t have to be put on you. You can explain to them that the bridal shop has restrictions on the number of guests that you can bring with you. Plus, if you still want them to be included in the appointment, you can always start a Zoom or FaceTime call with them during the appointment! This way, they can still feel like they’re a part of the experience. When you’re thinking about who to bring along with you, here is a helpful list of some common people that brides bring along with them:

  • Mom (or mother-figure)
  • Dad (or father-figure)
  • Grandparents
  • Future Mother-in-Law
  • Siblings
  • Close friends
  • Members of bridal party
  • Aunts
  • Cousins

As you can see, if you try to bring along everyone on this list, it would be very overwhelming! We most encourage that you bring along the people who will be the most positive, encouraging, and supportive. But, you also need someone who will tell you what you need to hear (in an encouraging way)! For example, they can tell you that you look amazing in a fit-and-flare, but they know that you like to be comfortable, so they’ll encourage you to try and find an A-line.

TIPS FOR WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING ALONE

Sometimes, people prefer to go wedding dress shopping alone, or they don’t have anyone to bring. Maybe your friends and family are across the country and can’t make it to your appointment. And that’s perfectly okay! The good news is, your bridal stylist will be there for you every step of the way. They can be your bridal stylist and best friend all rolled into one! If you are going shopping by yourself, we encourage you to keep an open mind! Go into the appointment having some sort of idea what you’re looking for, and definitely have a budget in mind. However, be open to trying on different styles that your bridal stylist suggests. You won’t have that sounding board of a group of people to bounce thoughts off of, so it’s important that you try on various styles so that you can truly figure out what you most like and feel comfortable in!
