A Complete Guide To Elopement Weddings

May 24, 2021

Because of COVID, elopements have become more popular than ever. Even as the world is getting back to normal, we still expect that elopement weddings will continue to be more popular than ever before! While COVID caused a lot of negative things, it also taught people what means the most to them in life. There are so many reasons why a couple might choose to elope, and we’re here to give you some tips and tricks to pulling off your elopement without any regrets!

One thing to figure out about your elopement wedding is, where is it going to happen? Are you planning to get married at the courthouse? Or have a destination elopement, either abroad or stateside? Or, maybe you’re going to elope in a backyard!

The possibilities are endless, but it’s important to think about early on, because you’re going to have to deal with different legal issues depending on where you’ll be getting eloped. We’ll get more into that in a little bit!

Just because you’re eloping doesn’t mean that you can’t have any guests! Technically, a wedding can be considered an elopement with up to 25 guests. It is completely up to you — you can keep it small, with just the two of you, the officiant, a photographer, and maybe your parents. Or, you can invite some of your closest family and friends to join you! It seriously is completely up to you and it can be however you choose it to be.

Yes, you can have vendors for an elopement! We really suggest investing in a photographer. You want to make sure that you have high-quality pictures to look back on for the rest of your life!

Also, especially if you’re having a destination elopement, you may want to even consider hiring a wedding planner. They can really help you out with all of the logistics so that you don’t have to worry about anything!

It’s totally up to you which vendors you hire — you could hire a florist, a hair/makeup stylist, a rental company, etc. Because you’re saving so much money by eloping, you may choose to splurge on a couple of vendor options!

Keeping it legal

As with any marriage, you will definitely want to make sure that you are keeping everything legal! It’s not always as easy as showing up at the courthouse one day to say your “I Do”‘s. Different states and counties have different requirements, so you’ll want to do your research to see what those look like!

If you are planning a destination elopement, make sure that you look into that specific country/state/county to see what their rules and regulations look like.

Just because you’re eloping, doesn’t mean that you can’t have the wedding dress of your dreams! If you want to wear a dress, of course. You may choose not to, which is perfectly fine!

However, some girls have dreamed their whole life of their wedding dress, so it is something that’s very important to them. You don’t have to sacrifice that if you’re eloping! Many bridal shops and websites have a variety of gowns that are perfect for elopements. If you’re searching for something more simple, you can find that, too!

For example, here at K&B Bridals, we are holding an Elopement Gown Spotlight Event from June 11-13, 2021. This event will feature an assortment of gowns from various designers that were hand-curated by our stylists, perfect for elopement events! We will have gowns that are perfect for destination elopements, as well as ones that are a bit more budget-friendly and simple.

You can book your appointment for this event with us online or by giving us a call at 410-838-1135!

Announcing your nuptials

Once your elopement is all said and done, now it comes time to announce to everyone that you got married! This is completely up to you how you choose to do this, but we do suggest doing this formally so that you don’t have to worry about hurt feelings by people who found out through word of mouth or Facebook.

You can send out formal announcement cards to everyone, which are definitely a nice touch. You could also simply tell everyone in person or by phone. Whatever is easiest for you and makes the most sense! It can also depend on how many people you have to tell. If there are a lot, then it’s probably easiest to send out formal announcement cards!
